S Solok Rejuvenates 200 Hectares Rubber Land

Padang Aro, (Antara Sumbar) - The Government of South Solok District, West Sumatra rejuvenates 200 hectares of community rubber land in Sangir Balai Janggo Sub-district in 2017.

"These 200 hectares rejuvenation is done through the state budget and given to the community in the form of seeds, fertilizers and insecticides on rubber land that is old and not productive anymore," Head of Plantation Agriculture Service of South Solok Wandra stated in Padang Aro, Friday.

Currently, South Solok rubber areas are 16,076 hectares with 8,247 owners.

While South Solok rubber production on period of January to November 2017 reached more than 12 thousand tons with average yield per hectare 1,056 kilogram.

In addition, through the Provincial Budget, it also distributed rubber seed assistance for a land area of 14 hectares in Sangir Balai Janggo Sub-district.

Then, through Regional Budget also distributed seed assistance in Sangir and Sangir Jujuan.

He said, the price of rubber is still relatively low related to the impact on production and the absence of new land addition by the community.

However, there are many people who still maintain the plant.

"Some people still rely on rubber as the main income and even though the cheap price is still tapped," he said.

He added that the government always provides assistance for rubber development to the community every year. (cha)
