Tourism sector needs new standards to face 'New Normal'

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Academics from the Trisakti College of Tourism (STP) Agus Riyadi said the tourism sector should prepare a new standard to face the ‘New Normal’ era.

"We need to immediately create a new standard operating procedure for hospitality in a pandemic condition. We can learn from the experience of other countries that have similar cases," Agus said in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

He added that the making of the new standard is very important for tourism so that businesses have the same standard in responding to ‘New Normal’. So the tourism sector can rise again.

Changes in consumer behavior will demand the tourism industry provide security guarantees for visitors.

"Later, every room should be often sterilized and parts that are often touched by hands, such as elevator buttons, doors or elevators that are sources of transmission of the virus. All of these efforts need money and energy," he explained.

Teaching staff of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine Division of FKUI, Dr. Wanarani Aries, said the pandemic that occurs every 100 years once is due to disruption of the natural balance. So it needs a new order in all fields of business, including tourism businesses in order to be able to survive facing COVID-19.

"Like what the new order in the world of tourism, let us formulate together starting from making standards, educating the community to preparing facilities and infrastructure so that people avoid COVID-19," said Wanarani.

The tourism sector remains promising after the pandemic because people need a vacation for mental health after undergoing quarantine for months.

Therefore, the tourism business should be able to guarantee the cleanliness and safety of COVID-19 to the public.

Executive Housekeeper at Oakwood Premier Cozmo Jakarta, Rina Purnamasari, asked the manager of the tourism business to add employees who aim to make the process of cleaning the space more optimally.

New normal has consequences for managers in the tourism business to spend more money. "They have to buy an antivirus disinfectant, they need additional personnel for cleaning and other facilities and infrastructure," said Rina.

He added, the manager also had to provide nutritious food to employees so that they would not get sick easily. especially foods that can boost immunity.
