Padang (ANTARA) - The transaction value of stocks of West Sumatran residents on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in September 2020 reached IDR 815 billion, the highest figure that has been achieved since the beginning of this year.

"Until the end of September 2020, the number of Single Investor Identification (SID) of West Sumatra residents has reached 20,451," said the Head of the West Sumatra Indonesia Stock Exchange, Early Saputra in Padang, Wednesday.

According to him, the high value of stock transactions shows that public interest in investing in the capital market continues to increase.

"The number of new investors has reached 2,949 until September," he said.

He stated that the increasing number of young people who are interested in investment, makes the transaction value continue to increase.

Early said that from demographic aspects, capital market investors in West Sumatra are dominated by students and college students with a total of 7,100 people aged 18-25 years.

It means that 80 percent of investors in West Sumatra are under 40 years old, he said.

Meanwhile, from a gender, the majority of investors in West Sumatra are 10,400 men and 9,200 women.

The number of stock assets based on the ages of 18-25 years has reached IDR 15 billion.

"Meanwhile, non-stock assets have reached Rp. 18 billion," he said.

Regarding the condition of the economy that has grown negatively in the last two quarters, he assesses that it does not affect people's interest in investing in the capital market.

He considered that this could not be separated from the education and supervision carried out by the OJK to the support from the government in making investment products according to the needs of young people.
