101 Indonesian Migrant Worker from Malaysia blocked when entering Bukittinggi

Bukittinggi (ANTARA) - A total of 101 Indonesian workers in Malaysia who boarded two large bus units were blocked when they entered Bukittinggi City, W Sumatra from border city of the Garegeh area, Mandiangin Subdistrict, Koto Selayan.

"They entered Indonesia from Dumai, Riau and were blocked in Garegeh. While there were 101 temporary data collection," said the head of police resort of Bukittinggi, AKBP Iman Pribadi Santoso in Bukittinggi, Thursday.

He explained that 101 people were residents of W Sumatra who worked in Malaysia and were aiming to return home.

"There are those who will go down in Padang, Pesisir Selatan, Pasaman and others. Temporary data collection until this afternoon, there is one person who will go down in Bukittinggi," he said.

Because the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) were being implemented to anticipate the spread of Covid-19, the Leadership Coordination Forum of Bukittinggi decided to quarantine all passengers and bus drivers.

From Garegeh, the group with escorts from officers in Bukittinggi turned around towards Baso, Agam Regency to be quarantined at the Education and Training Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs Region I W Sumatra.

According to the protocol, quarantine is done for 14 days but there are still obstacles because the capacity of the quarantine place is only for 72 people.

According to the head of the resort police department, his party had not received information on why the group had escaped to the border city of Bukittinggi. Meanwhile, to get to the city, the group still had to pass through the Limapuluh Kota Regency.

Until this afternoon, his side together with , the Leadership Coordination Forum of Bukittinggi and the Provincial Government are still collecting data on the migrant workers and immediately looking for solutions for further handling.
