Pariaman (ANTARA) - The Government of Pariaman City, W Sumatra immediately dredge the silting of the Batang Piaman river estuary, so that ships in and out of the tourist islands could return smoothly.
"Actually, early next year a rock grip will be built so that it can reduce the closure of the estuary by sand, but it is still long," Mayor Pariaman, Genius Umar said in Pariaman on Wednesday.
In order to be faster then in this month shallowing must be overcome immediately, because the estuary is used as a tourist pier to the island of Angso Duo and to other islands, including fishermen who will lean their ships.
He said if dredged, the tour boats and fishermen in the area can go in and out at any time, both to bring tourists and to transport the catch.
"Later at any time, every hour the ship can enter the dock," he said.
Currently the dock is not functioning optimally due to siltation in the estuary.
He said besides the Angso Duo island, his party would also develop other islands in the area in order to increase the attractiveness of tourism to the City of Pariaman.
Meanwhile, one of the tour boat entrepreneurs, Zainal Efendi, said that as a result of the silting of the estuary, his income from the island tour boat was reduced 60 percent.
"Many tourists come to the ticket counter, but because they have to ride on the beach they stop to go to the island," he said.
Before that, dozens of tourist ships in the City of Pariaman, cannot sail to take tourists to the island, because they are stuck on the dock due to siltation and buildup of sand at the end of the river estuary.
