Padang Pariaman Produces 1,500 Tons Whiteleg Shrimps

Parit Malintang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Padang Pariaman District, West Sumatra produces more than 1,500 tons of whiteleg shrimps in 2017 with a value of Rp135 million.

"The amount of production will increase with the increasing of whiteleg shrimps breeders in Padang Pariaman," Head of Fisheries Service of Padang Pariaman Office, Zainil stated in Parit Malintang.

He said the cultivator is an investor from outside the area who invested in Padang Pariaman.

The investment system seems like investors rent the land of local residents within a certain period.

Therefore, he encourages local residents to participate in cultivating vaname shrimp because it has the potential to boost the economy.

Among that, one of the whiteleg shrimps learner in Nagari Ketaping, Batang Anai Sub-district, Firdaus said that he started shrimp farming since 2017 with one hectare land area.

"Seeds can be obtained from various regions including Medan, Aceh, Bali, and Lampung which purchased at Rp62 for each," he pointed out

The shrimp marketing is started from Medan, Bali, Lampung and local market with selling price ranging from Rp35 thousand to Rp79 thousand per kilogram depending on the size of shrimp.

"But lately the weather is uncertain so it affects the harvest, so only about 70 percent of the seeds that can be harvested," he added. (cha)
