Deputy governor of W Sumatra hopes the Padang-Pulau Air train supports the tourism

Padang (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of W Sumatra, Nasrul Abit hopes the Padang-Pulau Air railroad, which has been revived, can support tourism in Kota Tua and the Port of Muaro, Padang.

"The active train line to the Pulau Air Station in Kota Tua area could be an important point for the advancement of tourism in the region," he said in Padang on Sunday.

Kota Tua area which is commonly called Kampung Pondok, is mostly inhabited by Chinese descendants so that buildings with Chinese nuances are very pronounced.

Some temples can be an option for tourists who come to the area because it is very Instagramable.

In addition, the Port of Muaro area which is still in the Kota Tua area will also be developed as a port for cruise ships.

The train line from Pulau Air is connected to Padang Station at Simpang Haru and continues to several stations.

The railway is split in Duku. One route to Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) and one route continues to Pariaman and ends at Naras.

The route to Pariaman is also split, one route continues to Kayu Tanam Station.

Head of the W Sumatra Transportation Office, Heri Nofiardi, said that the entire railway line in the province will be revived gradually.

Reviving the railway to Pulau Air is the first step in the reactivation effort, he said.

The railway to Pulau Air still connects to Muaro on the Padang coast. The railway is also likely to be revived.
