Pariaman, (Antaranews Sumbar) - West Sumatra Provincial Government in cooperation with three countries namely Germany, Korea and New Zealand will recycle the waste into organic fertilizer and biogas which is useful for people in the province.

"There is already cooperation with the three countries, but it does not in operational phase yet," Vice Governor of West Sumatra, Nasrul Abit stated on the sidelines of commemorating the National Trash Concern Day at the provincial level in Pariaman Municipality, on Friday.

He said the cooperation of processing waste into organic fertilizer and biogas is expected to fulfill the needs of farmers in the province.

So, he said, in the future there will be a waste output of organic fertilizer produced for agricultural sector or biogas in the area.

He said there are two areas for recycling waste in West Sumatra based in Padang and recycling of integrated waste in Payakumbuh.

Related to the operation, Padang will wait for a new mayor first. While Payakumbuh is currently in the feasibility study phase and it is expected to immediately operate as soon as possible.

For other areas, he said, waste management is left fully to every district and municipality government and it is advisable to have a final waste disposal site.

It is necessary, because in general there are 1,400 tons of waste per day in West Sumatra, he pointed out.

The highest rate of waste production is Padang for 500 tons and Payakumbuh 300 tons per day

"For areas that do not have a final waste dump, it can apply for assistance to the Ministry of Public Works," he said.

Meanwhile, Mayor of Pariaman, Mukhlis Rahman said the dominant garbage in the area, especially in the tourist area is coconut trash.

"There are still traders whose awareness of cleanliness is low, but we continue to train them regularly," he added. (cha)
