Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of West Sumatra reveals red chili had triggered inflation in the city of Padang in October 2017 with contribution reached 0.20 percent.

"In October 2017, inflation in Padang stood at 0.19 percent, triggered by the increase in the two largest contributors, namely red chili and sand," Head West Sumatra BPS Sukardi stated in Padang on Friday.

According to him, other than red chili and sand, other communities that experienced price increases in October are contracts of houses, household fuels, bricks, general practitioners, sepat, bottled water and spinach.

While a number of commodities have decreased in November 2017, among others, chicken meat, live chickens, onion, garlic, cooking oil, apples, jengkol, petai and beans.

Sukardi conveyed from January to October 2017, inflation in West Sumatra was relatively stable and there was no such a high price fluctuation that it was estimated that in December it would be in the position of about two percent.

He conveyed from 23 cities in Sumatra, 20 cities experienced inflation and three cities experienced deflation.

The highest inflation occurred in the city of Batam of 0.72 percent and the lowest in Jambi 0.05 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in the city of Bengkulu by 0.12 percent and the lowest in Tanjung Pinang by 0.02 percent.

While Padang was ranked 10th of all cities experiencing inflation in Sumatra and the order of 15th nationally, he said.

Previously the West Sumatra Provincial Government has required all State Civil Apparatus (ASN) in the province to grow chili pepper or polybag as one strategy to overcome scarcity in order to control inflation.

"There are 23 thousand ASN in West Sumatra provincial government, all given chili seedlings to be cultivated in their homes in order to overcome scarcity," West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno said.

Irwan said for seeds, it has been prepared by the Department of Agriculture and will be distributed free of charge so ASN just take care of it and harvest when it is fruitful.

"You can imagine if one ASN planted 10 stalks of chili, of course the results can fulfill the needs of chili," he added. (cha)
