Red Chili Price Triggered Padang Inflation in May: BPS

Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The rise of red chili prices triggered inflation again in Padang Municipality in May 2018 based on the records compiled by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of West Sumatra.
"Padang experienced inflation of 1.12 percent in May 2018. In general, red chili contributed 0.22 percent and onion 0.11 percent," Head of West Sumatra BPS, Sukardi stated in here on Monday.
According to him, inflation in Padang occurred due to the increase of index in all expenditure groups namely foodstuffs group 1.46 percent, food, beverages, tobacco and cigarettes 0.32 percent, clothing 0.19 percent, health group 0.08 percent, education, recreation and sports 0.06 percent.
He mentioned commodities that experienced price increases in Padang in May 2018 other than red chilli are chicken meat, rice with side dishes, chicken eggs, ketupat, vegetable, leek, tomato, household fuel, coffee powder and other commodities.
On the other hand, some commodities have decreased prices in Padang such as potato, jengkol, rice, detergent soap, cayenne pepper, green chili, squid, brick, fruit tomato, cooking oil and some other commodities.
He noted from 23 cities in Sumatra in May 2018, 13 cities experienced inflation and the highest is in Aceh by 0.72 percent and the lowest is in Lubuk Linggau 0.07 percent.
While Padang is in the fifth position of all cities which are experiencing deflation in Sumatra and the order of 22 nationally, he added. (cha)
