Pariaman (ANTARA) - Traditional game takena-kena, cakampar, and tumbuak lana-lana which has not been played by children has now been re-raised in Nagari Lareh Nan Panjang, District VII Koto Sungai Sariak, Padang Pariaman District, W Sumatra.

"We want to reintroduce traditional games to the younger generation because now they prefer to play gadgets so that this game will disappear," said Acting Mayor Nagari Lareh Nan Panjang Riki Harianto in District VII Koto on Sunday.

He said the game of tumbuak lana-lana by means of a number of children sitting in a circle and clenched fists arranged with the hands of other friends, then singing the game's song.

While the other two games such as cakampar is using a stone placed on the back of the sole of the foot, while takena-kena is a number of players make a circle and tuck each other's feet.

The game was used by children when they gathered together when they went to recite the Qur'an but now they don't play it anymore.

He said that the traditional game has a deep philosophy of solving problems together.

"So we are now reintroducing the traditional game to the younger generation," he said.

The introduction coincided with the MTQ implementation and the perfomance of Minangkabau traditional arts and culture and religion which took place on 27 and 28 December.

He explained that the activity was deliberately carried out at the end of the year because usually at that time young people in the area made activities that were not useful and led to juvenile delinquency.

He hopes that by carrying out activities that display arts and culture is expected to not only be able to bring back the game that has long been lost but also can prevent teenagers from promiscuity.
