Batusangkar (ANTARA) - Expert Team Ranah Minang Geopark working group who is also the chairman of the Indonesian Geological Association (IAGI) administrator of the West Sumatra region, Dian Hadiyansyah said Lake Singkarak is expanding every year.
"The lake is increasingly wider because there is a geological term called fault valleys, which is a lake formed by the fault of the slab," said Dian Hadiyansyah in Batusangkar.
It was said when deploying the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in order to develop Lake Singkarak into a national Geopark area in Batusangkar, on Wednesday, Oct 23.
He said that in the geological time scale, the movement of the fault occurred for a long time, could reach a time of tens, thousands, even millions of years.
"It was a regular geological process because of the formation of faulting. The change process is not fast, in decades of movement just several centimeter, "he said.
Nevertheless the process of movement is only a regular geological process, and does not adversely affect for people who stay in this area.
Related to the development of Lake Singkarak into a national Geopark, as geology, Lake Singkarak has a value of heritage and high value diversity that is not inferior to the Lake Toba geopark.
It is hoped that after the establishment of Lake Toba as a global geopark from UNESCO, Lake Singkarak immediately followed along with the lake Dibawah and Diatas, because the two lakes have the same process that is a Sumatran fault line.
Therefore, it is necessary to commit the district leadership in the next development, moreover,Lake Singkarak is owned by two districts of Tanah Datar and Solok regency.
The concept of development of the Geopark is a concept of conservation or preservation and remind the community behind the beautiful nature that also must be alert to natural disasters that arise.
