New York, (Antara Sumbar) - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla seconded US President Donald Trump who said he did not intend to get overly involved in the Myanmar issue but expected surrounding countries to contribute significantly towards a solution.
"We see that the US does not want to play a broad role in the world. With regard to the issue of Myanmar, there is an impression that Trump wants the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to take responsibility for resolving this issue, and rightly, we should be like that," Vice President Kalla noted when asked to comment on the US president's speech at the opening of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday (Sept 19).
The Indonesian vice president further said that Trump's speech prioritized the interests of the US.
"Actually, we expect to hear (Donald Trump's) point of view towards the world," the vice president stated.
With regard to the Myanmar issue, the vice president agrees that if there is a conflict in a region, then the surrounding countries should help to resolve it.
"We will help, and that is the role of Indonesia, as we are responsible for maintaining security in our region," Kalla noted. (*)
