Pariaman Begins To Hold Tabuik Cultural Festival on September 20

Pariaman, (Antara Sumbar) - The City Government of Pariaman, West Sumatra, will hold a Cultural Festival of Tabuik 2017 which begin on September 20 to October 1 at Gandoriah Beach.

"The regional government has held coordination meeting with related parties including Tuo Tabuik Pasa and Subarang in preparing for the event," Head of Culture and Tourism (Disbudpar), Effendi Jamal stated in Pariaman on Monday (Sept 18).

The series of cultural feast of tabuik will begin with the activities of torch parades and tabligh akbar centered at Gandoriah Beach and Tugu Tabuik, Center Pariaman Sub-district.

During the series of tabuik cultural events, there are several sacred rituals run by the children, niniak mamak and tuo Tabuik Pasa and Subarang.

Some of these sacred rituals include "Maambiak Tanah", "Maambiak atau Manabang Batang Pisang", "Maatam", "Maarak Jari-Jari or "Maradai", "Maarak Saroban", "Tabuik Naiak Pangkek", "Hoyak Tabuik", and "Tabuik dispose of into the sea ".

Based on the results of the coordination meeting, there are several evaluation improvements from previous activities.

Among the implementation of Tabuik 2017 attempted to dispose into the sea up to a distance of five to 10 meters.

In addition, it is expected to the committee so that the high tabuik design is only 12 meters to equalize one another.

Related to the budget of these activities, local governments spend up to Rp800 million. Each Tabuik group is given Rp140 million of assistance.

Meanwhile, one of Niniak Mamak Tabuik Rafki (45) said regretted the lack of promotion of the event to the wider community.

"We regret the promotion of tabuik cultural event is still minimal, but this is a national event to bring tourists from various regions, it is expected to be a lesson for local government," he said.

He asked the police and local Transportation Agency to facilitate the access of people from various regions who want to witness the cultural activities.

"Last year, many people and visitors from outside that complaint area and difficult in getting into the main location of tabuik," he said.

Related to tabuik cultural festival, his side considered it still need to be added to the committee, because it is feared limited cost impact to quality and spirit of tabuik children.

Tabuik cultural party is a local celebration in order to commemorate Ashura, the fall of Imam Husain, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, conducted by Minangkabau community in the coastal area of West Sumatra, especially in Pariaman.

This festival includes re-displaying the battle of Karbala, and playing a tassa drum. Tabuik is a term for the cadaver carried during the ceremony procession.

The activity is also conducted to attract tourists from various regions to the city of Pariaman. (cha)
