Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The price of red chili begins to rise Rp5,000 per kilogram from a week ago price at Rp30,000 per kilogram, now it becomes Rp35,000 per kilogram at retailers' level in Padang, West Sumatra.
"The increase was due to the high demand ahead of Ramadhan (fasting month) 1439 Hijriah, while the supply does not increase," one trader at Raya Market Padang, Anto T (49) stated in Padang, Friday.
He mentioned about five days ago, the price of chili had dropped to Rp28,000 per kilogram, and it is expected to approach the fasting prices continue to rise gradually.
Then green chili also increased from Rp24,000 per kilogram to Rp30,000 per kilogram, while the price of cayenne pepper is stable at Rp50,000 per kilogram.
According to him, chili sold in Raya Market Padang is mostly come from Java and Medan, while local production is distributed outside the region.
In addition to chili, onion prices also rose again after it had dropped to the price of Rp30,000 per kilogram, and currently rose to Rp36,000 per kilogram.
"Almost the last three weeks, the supply of red onion from Alahan Panjang Solok is reduced, because the commodity is more widely distributed outside the region such as Java Island," another trader, Rizal stated.
For that, he hoped the supply will be more smoothly and buyers no longer complain of the high price.
Other basic commodities such as broiler had also increased since the last few days, from Rp35,000 to Rp40,000 for each.
For vegetable prices such as beans Rp4,000 per kilogram, carrots Rp9,000 per kilogram, tomatoes Rp6,000 per kilogram, and purple eggplant Rp4,000 per kilogram, long bean Rp5,000 per bound, and potatoes Rp12,000 per kilogram.
Besides, for the price of domestic chicken eggs ranging from Rp1,300 per egg, duck eggs Rp2,200 per egg, and quail egg is Rp300 per egg.
