Padang (ANTARA) - PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has followed up on requests for used locomotives and carriages from the Pariaman City Government, West Sumatra to become a railway museum in the area.

"Today we are accompanying a team from KAI in Bandung for observations related to the request of the Pariaman City Government," said the Head of Regional Division II of PT KAI West Sumatra, Insan Kesuma while inspecting the location which will be used as a railway museum area in Pariaman, Thursday.

He explained that if the locomotive and carriages were approved to be handed over to the Pariaman City Government, his party would modify them like the old days, accompanied by photographs to complement the educational facilities.

The location for the railway museum is planned to be close to the beach, in Desa Pauh Barat, Pariaman Tengah which is not far from the Pariaman train station.

He said that currently a railway museum is also in Sawahlunto, while Kota Pariaman is still in process.

"We only provide spare parts and educational photos," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Pariaman City Transportation Agency, Yanrilenza, said that his party wanted to present the first train that operated in Pariaman in 1908 was Dang Tuangku.

"In addition to locomotives that have operated in Pariaman, we also request four units of carriages that also operate to Pariaman," he added.

He said that with this museum, the public would know the history of trains in Pariaman City.

Although his party asked for one locomotive and four carriages, based on the information obtained, only one locomotive and one carriage were approved to be used as a museum.
