Padang limits passenger vehicles to only 50 percent in the new normal era

Padang (ANTARA) - The Government of Padang city, W Sumatra has imposed a maximum capacity limitation of vehicles of 50 percent of the total carrying capacity in a new normal era, to prevent the transmission of Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19).

"Refer to Mayor regulation number 49 of 2020 regarding New Normal in the Pandemic Period COVID-19 for violating motorists will be sanctioned ranging from social work to fines with money," said Head of the Padang City Transportation Department, Dian Fakri in Padang, on Wednesday.

According to him in the near future his party will immediately impose sanctions on motorists who violate with Satpol PP and the police.

In Mayor Regulation number 49 of 2020 a new normal is regulated in the transportation sector for public transportation regulated the number of passengers must not exceed 50 percent of vehicle capacity.

Then it must maintain a distance, minimum of one meter and mark the seat limit of the vehicle.

Vehicle owners also have to clean and disinfect regularly every day.

Next people who have a fever, cough and runny nose are prohibited from traveling using public transportation.

For three- and two-wheeled vehicles such as motorcycle taxi drivers and passengers are required to wear masks and gloves.

Motorcycle taxi passengers are also expected to bring their own helmets to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Furthermore, for the transportation of the hansom, the driver must wear a mask.

Meanwhile for private vehicles besides wearing masks, they are also required to provide hand sanitizers.

Every person who violates the provision is given a social work sanction to clean public facilities with a special vest, up to an administrative fine starting from IDR 100 thousand up to IDR 250 thousand.

While the Chairperson of The Land Transport Owners Organisation (Organda) welcomed the policy as an effort to prevent transmission of COVID-19.

He said there were currently around 1,000 city transportation in Padang but due to the pandemic only around 250 units were operating due to lack of passengers.
