South Solok Distributes 40 Thousands Arabica Coffee Seedlings

Padang Aro, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The Government of South Solok District, West Sumatra, has distributed 40 thousand seedlings of superior arabica coffee seedlings to four farmer groups in the area.

Head of Plantation Division of South Solok Agriculture Office Wandra accompanied by Head of Production Section Joko Nugroho in Padang Aro, said the arabica coffee seedlings came from provincial government, and they have been accepted by four farmer groups.

The coffee seedlings support is the main idea of Provincial Legislative Assembly members to support the community's interest in cultivating arabica coffee.

Four groups of beneficiaries of arabica coffee seedlings are Leter W Saiyo 13,000 stems, Umbul Mulyo, Sinar Panihat and Durian Sejahtera 9,000 stems for each.

In addition, he said, it still through the provincial government funds that there is a help of post-harvest coffee processing equipment for the group of Sumber Rezeki at number of one package.

In general, he said that coffee beans from South Solok are accommodated by traders from outside the district and the market has reached America.

"We encourage farmers groups to do the processing so that the selling price is higher," he said.

In addition, it also channeled the intensification of arabica coffee to seven farmer groups in two sub-districts through National Budget.

This intensification aid is given for 200 hectares of land to increase arabica coffee production.

For the intensification of assistance, it is in the form of fertilizer, scissors and pheromone or pest control on coffee plants.

He hopes that with these various aids it can increase coffee production in South Solok so that the farmer's economy also increases. (cha)
