Pariaman, (Antara Sumbar) - The Government of Pariaman Municipality, West Sumatra held a packaging training for Small Medium Enterprises (SME) in the city to increase the added value of the product.

"The training aimed to make SMEs business in Pariaman to have more selling value and competitiveness in the market," Head of Trade Service Office of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Disperindagkop and UKM) of Pariaman Gusniyetti Zaunit stated in Pariaman, Tuesday.

There are 20 perpetrators of SMEs of snacks and crafts who are trained directly by the provincial and municipal government of Pariaman.

"10 small-medium-scale SMEs from Perak village of Central Pariaman Sub-district and 10 craftsmen such as embroidery and knitting," he said.

So far, the perpetrators of SME are not maximized in presenting and packaging the results of products made, thus impacting the turnover of traders.

For example, SMEs do not include food composition, halal labels, absence of Household Food License (PIRT), and manual-only packaging.

In fact there are still packaging that is sealed using fire and brand production used made from paper and then propagated. This is considered to reduce the selling value and willingness of people to buy the product, he explained.

He considered the existence of packaging training to the perpetrators of SME will increase sales because people are more interested to buy.

"The government avoids the perpetrators of SME who sell food and craft with simply packaging because it can damage the image of the region" he said.

Despite a slight increase in production costs, it considered that the goods that have been packaged as possible may have a higher selling value and have competitiveness.

Meanwhile, Ani, one of SMEs snack maker especially Ladu Arai Pinang said the packaging training is useful for the business he is engaged in.

"All this time we did sell snacks minimized packaging because of lack of knowledge and training," he added. (cha)
