BKSDA shares brochures of protected animals to prevent illegal trade

Lubukbasung (ANTARA) - The Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) of West Sumatra shared brochures of protected animals to prevent cases of animal trafficking in the area.

"We share 3,000 brochures of protected animals in the center of the crowd, bird-loving groups, schools and others in the working area of the Agam Resort BKSDA. Previously we share 5,000 brochures in 2018," said Forest Ecosystem Controller (PEH) BKSDA West Sumatra Ade Putra in Lubukbasung. , Monday.

He said the brochures were equipped with pictures of animals protected by Law No. 5 of 1990 on Conservation of Living Natural Resources and their Ecosystems.

Protected plant and animal species in West Sumatra are divided into four groups, namely mammals, birds, plants and amphibians or reptiles.

Group of mammals such as tiger, orangutan, elephant, antelope, deer, forest goat, bear, slow loris, binturung, gibbon, ungko, mouse deer, rabbits, jungle cat or mangrove, red cat, golden cat, clouded leopard, pangolin, tapir, rhino, beavers, skunks, weasels, water raccoons and flying squirrels.

While the bird groups consist of eagles, hornbills, parrots, kuau, green peafowl, bluwok cranes, cockatoos, king prawns, leaf magpies, malay walnuts, king sepah, paok and serindit.

While the plant groups are corpse flowers, rafflesia and Nepenthes.

In addition, the amphibian or reptile group includes crocodiles, turtles, bening, star turtles, whales, dolphins, dugongs and belangkas.

"All of the protected animals are in the West Sumatra area," he said.

According to him, the brochure was shared because the cases of trade in protected animals were very high in the area in the past month.

Ade hopes that by distributing the brochure the public can find out what types of animals are protected and including the legal sanctions they have violated.

So that, cases of trade in protected animals will decrease in the area.
