The Largest Indonesian Weaving Center To be Inagurated in May

Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The largest weaving factory in Indonesia which located in Nagari Tigo Jangko, Tanah Datar Distrcit, West Sumatra is scheduled to be inaugurated on May 8, 2018 by the wife of Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Head of Public Relations of Tanah Datar Syahril stated in Batusangkar, Thursday.

The weaving center is built on an area of 11,710 meters square, equipped with flats with 35 rooms and has apartment class facility.

The community of weaving enthusiasts will be given the skills in the weaving center such as for yarn dyeing, songket lace making, weaving training, handling, embroidery, batik making, various souvenirs and business management.

"We hope there will be new woven craftsmen. It does not only in Tanah Datar but also in West Sumatra as a whole," he said.

Head of Department of Industrial Cooperation of Tanah Datar, Abdul Hakim said that currently there is a production building that can be utilized for training. There is also available 35 looms that are ready to use.

In the long term, the weaving industry center will be the school under the management of foundation to be established by local government.

At the inauguration, Mufidah Jusuf Kalla will also witness the understanding of industrial centers with SMKN 1 Lintau which already has textile griya.

The school became a model for SMK in West Sumatra in order to make the center of the weaving industry as a place of practice. (cha)
