Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - West Sumatra Provincial Government supports the use of Family Medicinal Plants (Toga) and acupressure in the area, so that people can overcome illness independently without having to go to local gvt clinic (puskesmas).

"This is not only beneficial to the community, but it can also help the burden of puskesmas and hospitals, so we support it fully," Vice Governor of West Sumatra Nasrul Abit stated in Padang on Thursday (Oct 12).

He mentioned that after receiving a team of appraisers of the application of medicinal plants of Indonesia Ministry of Health.

The medicinal plant does not require a large area of land because it can be planted around the yard of house, although it can also be on special land for commercial purposes.

"So if a family member is sick such as fever or a cold, it does not have to go directly to puskesmas, it can use medicinal plants around the house," he continued.

However, the use of medicinal plants must be accompanied by socialization to improve people's understanding of its benefits.

Meanwhile, one of the appraisal team of family medicinal plant application from Ministry of Health of RI Ratna Ariani mention in addition to the utilization of medicinal plants, acupressure can also help people from mild disease.

Acupressure is a traditional healing technique from China using the fingers or by using tools such as wooden sticks (finger prick), by pressing certain points on the body to facilitate the flow of chi in the body.

"People really need special training to be able to use this therapy technique," she said accompanied by other assessment teams suchi as Dwi Kuncahyani SKM, MSi, Haryani SKM, MPHM, Dr. Agus Kamal Purba, Dr. Sri Hastuti Nainggolan, and Rachmawati.

Assessment of medicinal plants will be done in Payakumbuh, as an area that is considered quite good in the development of program. (cha)
