Padang (ANTARA) - Sangkokalo Sarunai Studio from Sijunjung area, W Sumatra Province performed the Minangkabau regional art Lukah Gilo at the Minangkabau Cultural and Arts Festival held by the Andalas University Faculty of Cultural Sciences.

This cultural performance is one of the arts performed at the peak night of the Minangkabau Culture and Arts Festival activities.

The teacher from Sarunai Sangkokalo studio, Herdian Fauzi said that Lukah Gilo is one of the Minangkabau regional arts used as a media to be possessed by ghosts / Jinns.

"The art involves one Pawang person who will whisper a spell and two other people hold the body when the spell is whispered until it starts to craze with irregular movements because it is possessed by Jin and can also be directly felt by the audience," said Herdian.

Herdian also said that in the art of "Lukah Gilo" in the Sijunjung area, when Lukah began to go crazy there was a taboo that he should not touch the waist of "Lukah Gilo".

"Before "Lukah Gilo" is shown, it is usually soaked for a day," Herdian continued.

Before starting the appearance of "Lukah Gilo", Sarunai Sangkokalo studio opened their appearance with "Silat Langkah Ampek"

The body is filled with a number of plant thorns and hands from banana fronds, "said Herdian

At the beginning of history of 'Lukah Gilo" was intended for mystical matters when the Minangkabau people were still very thick with the belief in sorcery involving supernatural beings, but for now Hendri said that if "Lukah gilo" from the Sangkokalo Sarunai Studio is only to preserve the Minangkabau regional art.

The attraction of "Lukah Gilo" is also a proof to the wider community that something magical is indeed true as stated in the letter Al-Baqarah

"It was my first time seeing "Lukah gilo" and I was made goosebumps when I saw his appearance and was able to get to know about "Lukah Gilo's art which had already been very rarely found, " said Ligia one of the audiences.

The various types of Lukah Gilo art have their own characteristics for each region and currently the "Lukah Gilo" art has begun to be scarce in W Sumatra. Lukah is a tool to catch fish made of bamboo or rattan in the form of a cone and at the edges shrinking.
