Mataram, (Antara Sumbar) - An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale jolts several parts of West Nusa Tenggara, and Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara at 8.32 a.m. Central Indonesia Standard Time (WITA) on Monday (Sept 18), but it was not strong enough to trigger a tsunami.

Matara Geophysics Office Chief Agus Riyanto remarked here on Monday that the epicenter of the earthquake was located at 8.22 degrees Southern Latitude and 119.29 degrees Eastern Longitude, at a depth of 29 kilometers and 66 kilometers northeast of Bima, West Nusa Tenggara.

He said the magnitude of the quake was felt by the people in Lombok and Sumbawa islands in West Nusa Tenggara, and in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

Hence, the Meteorology and Geophysics Office has encouraged the people in the quake-hit areas, especially in Labuan Bajo to remain calm, and not be provoked by a misleading information about a tsunami. (*)
