Painan, (Antara Sumbar) - The Government of South Pesisir District, West Sumatra, integrates the development of Bali Cattle with oil palm plantations in Silaut sub-district.

"Bali cattle in Silaut currently at number around 5,000 cattles, and they will be integrated into 60 thousand hectares of oil palm plantations in the sub-district," Head of local Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Service, Hazrita stated in Painan, Tuesday (Sept 26).

Integration is done by raising cattle on plantation land, and at the same location, it also prepared a land area of 30 hectares as a place to grow grass to feed cattle.

Integration is not limited to preparing the land alone, but also prepared by officers to monitor the health of cattle.

In addition, due to the limited number of officers and the extent of the area to be reached, local community is also empowered by being trained first.

"In Silaut, there are 10 nagari (traditional villages) in each of our villages to train one citizen as an extension officer to community," he pointed out.

With the integration, it is expected to various constraints experienced by farmers such as disease, decreased quality of tillers, and others which can be overcome.

"In 2018, we target the population growth of Bali cattle in Silaut to increase by 60 percent," he said.

The activity has the support of all nagari governments in the sub-districts, and each of nagari governments poured around Rp30 million for seeds, cages and others. (cha)
