Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The Government of Padang Municipality, West Sumatra seeks Raya Market and its surrounding shops to be the largest trading and shopping center in the province.
"Raya Market is quite strategic in Padang as it is close to the beach tourism location and other objects, then the environment and the building just need to be renovated," Head of Padang Trade Service, Endrizal stated in here on Friday (May 25).
The steps taken by government towards that direction have been implemented through the construction of Inpres market Block I, II, III and IV which cost Rp247 billion.
The building consists of 3,025 plots and the kiosk is filled by 3,000 traders ranging from vegetables, rice, chicken, fruit, and other commodities.
Although already inaugurated earlier this year, it is still a lot of renovation at some point and strengthening the function in the Inpres Market.
Some of works which are being done in Block III including a building for a public service mall that is planned to be launched this year.
Then in the same building, it will be built the center of superior products from 19 districts and cities in West Sumatra.
The four block buildings have also been locations for disaster evacuation shelter as this is a precautionary measure for disaster mitigation especially the tsunami considering it is located in the prone area.
In addition to the public service mall, there will be government offices on the block building.
It aims to make Raya Market as a multipurpose representative facility for the community and government.
"In addition to the revitalization of buildings, environmental and road arrangements are being made," he noted. (cha)
