Lubukbasung, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The Government of Agam District, West Sumatra, assigned Nagari (traditional village) Lawang, Matur Sub-district as English Village (Kampung Inggris) in order to improve the ability of local people to master the foreign language.

Regent of Agam, Indra Catri in Lubuk Basung, Thursday, said that the determination of English village is one form of government concerns in the field of education, especially in mastering foreign languages.

Nagari Lawang was chosen as the English village because its citizens have a passion and a strong desire to learn English.

He hopes that the community will learn seriously and maintain the pride of society.

He added that the English village of Nagari Lawang will be a place for young people to improve their English skills. That ability can be used in life and in looking for work.

English village is not a tourist promotion event, but the brain industry for the younger generation to prepare themselves to speak English.

Meanwhile, Head of Nagari Lawang, Jamal Mukhtar said that the establishment of English village will help people to apply English into everyday language.

"At the beginning, the target is 30 people, but until now there are 80 children who have signed up to study," he added. (cha)
