Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - West Sumatra or Sumatran Expo 2017 in Batam, Riau Islands which will be held from 9 to 12 of November 2017 is targeting to promote regional potential, one of them is tourism sector to Malaysia and Singapore tourists.
"In addition to the Riau Islands residents, the promotion is targeted for international tourists to be interested to come to West Sumatra," Vice Governor of West Sumatra, Nasrul Abit stated in Padang, Monday.
According to local Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) data, most foreign tourists who come to West Sumatra come from Malaysia, so local government seeks to explore the potential, one of them through local exhibitions.
Batam as one of the areas of domestic tourist visit is also considered to introduce the potential of West Sumatra.
However, the West Sumatra Summit 2017 is not focused on tourism alone, but also exhibits other potential such as arts such as saluang, rabab, dance, Minang songs, culture and culinary.
Chairman of the Executive Committee of West Sumatra Expo 2017, Syafrudin said a number of cultural arts performances and Minangkabau culinary festival has been prepared. There will also be business meetings.
West Sumatra expo 2017 is planned to be opened by West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno who will also inaugurate the board of West Sumatra Family Association (IKSB) and GEMA Minang Batam. (cha)
