Padang (ANTARA) - Governor of West Sumatra Prof. Dr. H. Irwan Prayitno, Psi, M.Sc encouraged artists to continue working during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was conveyed by the Governor of West Sumatra officially when he opened the Social Reality Fine Arts event with theme "New Life" at the Taman Budaya Gallery, Wednesday.

“Art is an appreciation to express feeling that we feel with beauty. In life, art cannot be valued only as a material," he added.
In addition, Irwan Prayitno gave appreciation to the artists by opening the art exhibition of the digalery and still paying attention and referring to the COVID-19 health protocol wearing masks during the exhibition.
"I open an exhibition here every year, but this time it is different from previous years, because of the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.
Even though in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, West Sumatran artists continue to exist in creating works of quality.
Irwan welcomes the works of West Sumatra artists who have high selling value. These works also provide economic opportunities for artists.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Provincial Cultural Office of West Sumatra, Gemala Ranti, said that the exhibition involved 26 participants displaying dozens of works including 27 paintings, three sculptures, six sketches, dozens of batik arts featuring local motifs and mini-installation works. .
According to Gemala Ranti, currently Indonesia is being hit by the COVID-19 disaster, it turns out that West Sumatran fine art artists still exist working to produce the best works through creative exploration of the visual aesthetic realm containing a set of values.
"Currently, art actors have entered remote areas to interact, collaborate and understand society from the aspect of creating works," said Gemala.
Artists and art workers rely intuition, emotion, sense of taste, and expertise. The seriousness of artists in observing, recognizing and reading, how culture can move forward.
"Therefore, the joint exhibition can be a momentum for the revival of fine arts and crafts as cultural assets, especially in West Sumatra," she said.
