Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - West Sumatra Vice Governor, Nasrul Abit assesses the convenience of Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) to be one of the supporting factors for regional tourism development and he appreciated Angkasa Pura II's efforts to increase its capacity.

"BIM is the main gate of West Sumatra because most tourists come in and out of here, therefore airport area should be made as comfortable as possible," he stated while being contacted from Padang on Saturday.

BIM's current capacity is only for 2.8 million passengers per year, while the number of people utilizing this facility is increasing every year. Even in 2017 has reached 3.9 million people.

In relation to it, he appreciated the plan of PT Angkasa Pura II to increase the airport's capacity to 5.2 million people per year and add hotel facilities within the airport area.

Chairman of the Association of Travel Business Entrepreneurs (Asita) of West Sumatra, Ian Hanafiah said tourism is a service business that prioritizes service, not only in tourist destinations but also on supporting facilities such as hotels and even airports.

The more comfortable and good service of tourism support facilities, it will be the better image given so that tourists feel at home and want to return to visit.

He considered the addition of facilities at the airport such as a comfortable lounge may provide comfort to tourists.

If the same good service is provided in the destination, West Sumatra tourism will grow and the number of visits increases every year. (cha)
