Padang Facilitates Small-scale Fishermen To Market Fresh Fish

Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - The Government of Padang Municipality, West Sumatra, facilitates dozens of small-scale fishermen in Padang Beach to sell and market the catch through the establishment of "Fresh Fish Garden Puruih".

"The park is a building consisting of thirty fish stalls and has been inaugurated on Friday (Dec 29)," Head of Fisheries and Marine Affairs of Padang Eyviet Nazmar stated while being confirmed in Padang on Sunday.

He mentioned the place is meant for fishermen to sell the catch in fresh condition after going to sea.

During this time, he said, 50 fishermen who are around the coast of Purus sell the catch scattered on the beach.

With these fish stalls, people can buy fresh fish directly in a centralized manner with many choices.

"In addition to the fish market, the place also as a tourist site so that it needs to keep clean," Eyviet said.

He added that so far his side has given the aid of cooling box car as much as two units.

In this case his side will always do supervision on the fish stall.

"According to the direction of the mayor, it is not justified large-scale fish traders selling at the place," he said.

Another guardian's direction, it need to encourage local fishermen groups to form cooperatives.

According to him, the existence of fish buying and selling cooperatives will be easier, planned and beneficial to all members. (cha)
