Jakarta (ANTARA) - A total of 22 hospitals in Indonesia are ready to carry out clinical trials on four medicines that are potential to become COVID-19 medicines in the implementation of the "Solidarity Trial" program coordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO) together with other countries.

"Indonesia is the sixth country that has started the implementation of this study, through this test it is hoped that it can accelerate medicine discovery for COVID-19," Acting Head of the Health Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Health Prof. Abdul Kadir said in a written statement on the official website of the Ministry of Health quoted in Jakarta On friday.

The Solidarity Trial is carried out on a large scale to produce strong data evidence, and we need to show which medicines are the safest and most effective.

The Solidarity Trial is a WHO program that involves more than 100 countries conducting clinical testing of four main antiviral candidates as COVID-19 medicines. The four medicines tested were remdesivir, lopinavir / ritonavir, a combination of lopinavir / ritonavir plus interferon beta 1A, and chloroquine / hydroxychloroquine. All medicines are provided by WHO with the Ministry of Health as the research coordinator.

Head of the Center for Research and Development of Resources and Health Services, Irmansyah, said that hospitals participating in the WHO Solidarity Trial program in the future are expected to increase.

The hospital that participated in the program were Prof. Sulianti Soeroso Infectious Diseases Hospital in Jakarta, H. Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan, Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung, Dr. Soetomo Regional General Hospital, Udayana University Bali Hospital, Dr. Kariadi Semarang, Ambarawa Hospital Semarang, Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta Regional General Hospital, RSUPN Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Jakarta, Dr. Moewardi Solo Regional General Hospital, and Jakarta Friendship Hospital.

Besides that there were Prof. Dr. Kandou Regional General Hospital in Manado, Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Regional General Hospital in Makassar, RSJ Prof. Soerojo Magelang, Dr. M. Djamil Regional General Hospital in Padang , Univ. Airlangga Surabaya Hospital, Arifin Achmad Regional Hospital (RSUD) in Pekanbaru, RSUD Dr. Achmad Mochtar Bukit Tinggi, RSUD Dr. Saiful Anwar Malang, Jakarta YARSI Hospital, Dr. RSPAU Esnawan Antariksa Jakarta, and Sanglah Hospital in Bali.

Irmansyah said the research medicines had been distributed to eight hospitals, five from three Hospital are ready to carry out testing because medicine distribution had arrived. The five hospitals have had three of the five therapy groups given Hydroxychloroquine, the group with lopinavir / ritonaviraluvia, and the standard hospital treatment group. Thus, the hospital was able to recruit participants and randomize them.

"I just got information that the first patient recruitment was done at Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital," said Irmansyah.

The Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital Team, led by Dr. dr. Irawaty Djaharuddin, SpP (K) said the experience of recruiting the first patient had no problems. The research process was carried out in accordance with the protocol by applying the principle of prevention of COVID-19 infection.
