Pariaman breaks MURI record playing 1,001 tasa

Pariaman (ANTARA) - Students and youth in Pariaman City, W Sumatra broke the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) record for 1,001 tasa beatings to enliven the commemoration of National Archipelago Day.

"Even though the training was only a short time, the results were very satisfying, even getting the MURI record with the most participants," Mayor Pariaman, Genius Umar said after receiving the MURI record in Pariaman on Saturday.

He said the appearance was aimed at introducing guests and the wider community about culture in Pariaman.

He explained that 'gandang tasa' is a traditional Pariaman City art tool which is usually played to welcome special guests who come to an event.

These events include weddings, alek nagari , and Hoyak Tabuik which can provide encouragement.

"And for today the gandang tasa is played at the peak of the commemoration of National Archipelago Day," he said.

Then, the student and youth trainer, Ribut Anton Sujarwo (30) said the participants in the gandang tasa were students, ranging from elementary to high school and youth representatives from villages in the City of Pariaman.

"The practice is only three times for punches and twice for movements. So if the exercise is totaled about a week, "he said.

According to him the number of MURI records obtained was not one, but two, namely the first most participants and the second fastest training.

Pariaman City is hosting the commemoration of National Archipelago Day on December 14, 2019 at Pantai Gandoriah and will be filled the activities with maritime theme .

He said that there were many activities carried out on the commemoration of the National Archipelago Day, including cleaning the beach, maritime activities and displaying a thousand 'gandang tasa'.
