Painan (ANTARA) - Thousands of dead jellyfish were stranded because sea storm in Nagari Sungai Pinang beach, the Integrated Marine Tourism Area (KWBT) Mandeh, Pesisir Selatan Regency, W Sumatra, on Friday afternoon.
"This incident does not only happen this time but is already frequent, especially if the conditions are strong water or sea storm," said the owner of the Asila Tour travel agency, Elfi Wahyuni in Painan, on Friday.
He revealed because in the Mandeh region there are many coral reefs and calm waters making jellyfish found in many locations.
"Jellyfish are harmless because they don't sting. "I have never seen or heard of tourists being stung by jellyfish when doing water activities in Mandeh," he explained.
Even when tourists are enjoying the beauty of coral and beautiful fish in the waters of Mandeh by snorkeling, often they also see the presence of jellyfish.
"Alhamdulillah, jellyfish in Mandeh have never taken casualties like in some other marine tourism objects in Indonesia," he said.
Mandeh area is one of the mainstay destinations in Pesisir Selatan District, Mandeh became the nominee in the 2019 Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Award (ISTA) competition with 36 other tourist destinations in Indonesia.
These tourist destinations include West Lombok, Sesaot Tourism Village, West Sumbawa, Alam Asri Jelenga.
Next is Sikka, Koja Doi Tourism Village, Raja Ampat,Cultural Sasi Kafiau Islands Indigenous Peoples , namely local wisdom in conservation and tourism, Saproken Forest Park Tourism Village, Piaynemo Geowisata Group and Manado, Siladen Resort and others.
He added that the entry of Mandeh as a nomination was the pride of the local community, as well as a form of recognition that Mandeh was widely known.
"This activity is also to encourage fire in an effort to continue the development of Mandeh, and ensure that Mandeh is ranked in this event," he said.
