Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is paying high attention to the education sector in West Sumatra province by, among others, inaugurating Buya Hamka modern Islamic boarding school in Padang, Rector of Padang State University (UNP) Prof Ganefri said.
"The president is paying attention to the development of human resources by improving the education sector, among others," he said here on Sunday.
In 2017, the president`s programs focused on the development of infrastructures in all parts of the country. But in 2018, the president is focusing on the development of human resources by improving the education sector, he said.
One of the types of education the president wants to develop is vocational education which aims to prepare students to work through their various skills, he said.
"As a developing nation, we need workers who have medium to high level of skills," he said.
The president is also focusing on developing human resources particularly to prepare the country for demography bonus in 2030 when nearly 70 percent of the Indonesian population is in productive age and the remaining 30 percent is in non-productive age, he said.
He said UNP has prepared a total of 18 vocational study programs to face the demography bonus. (*)
