Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Officials of the Department of Trade and Industry (Disperindag) of West Sumatra Zaimar predicts that the price of chili in the area will go down as supplies from various regions have entered the markets there.
"The high price of chili is due to the supply from Medan and Java is reduced due to weather factor, but the supply can be covered from other regions," Head of Domestic Trade at Industry and Trade, Zaimar stated in Padang on Tuesday.
He said it was related to the rise in the price of chili in West Sumatra since December 2017.
According to him, the areas that supply chilies other than Medan and Java are Palembang, Lampung, Jambi and parts of Medan.
The amount of supply is sufficient for the needs of people of West Sumatra, which averages 2,500 tons per month.
The data of West Sumatra Disperindag in December 2017 shows the price of chili is still Rp36,000 per kilogram. The price gradually rose in early 2018.
One of the chili merchants in Raya Market Padang, Anto T (47) mentioned that the price of chili now ranges from Rp46,000 to Rp48,000 per kilogram.
The price is still relatively normal according to him. (cha)
