Jakarta, (ANTARA) - An Islamic organization, Hizbut Tahrir, has called for protecting women from the negative impacts of capitalism during its International Conference for Women entitled "The Khilafah Protecting Women from Poverty and Enslavement", which was held here on Saturday. "Capitalism causes a welfare imbalance and the exploitation of women. Working is considered as the only way for women to ensure their financial needs. Unfortunately, more women complain about getting bad treatment at work," the spokesman to Hizbut Tahrir Women's Organization for Southeast Asia Region, Fika Komara, said. Additionally, she called upon all countries to help protect women by implementing the Khilafah system, in which a country is run based upon Islamic teachings. Fika argued that in the Khilafah system, women do not need to leave home and their children for work, which is performed by men. In the Khilafah system, she added, the nation plays a larger role in protecting women against economic exploitation. Meanwhile, spokesman of Hizbut Tahrir from the United Kingdom, Imrana Daudi, said there is a misunderstanding in society about how to measure the success of a woman. "Working women are considered to be more empowered and successful, while not all women agree about this. True success of women is not defined by money, but her position in the afterlife," she added. Saturday's international conference is the second to be held this year, following a first conference held in Tunisia last March. About 1,500 participants from various areas in Indonesia attend the conference. The conference also included representatives of Hizbut Tahrir from the United Kingdom, Turkey, Malaysia and Africa.
