Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of West Sumatra noted that the province's economy grew 5.29 percent in 2017 or above the national figure which only 5.07 percent.


"The figure is also increasing compared to 2016 while at that time the West Sumatra economic growth was at 5.27 percent position," Head of BPS of West Sumatra, Sukardi stated in Padang, Monday.


He explained that in terms of production, agricultural business performance is the biggest contributor to West Sumatra's economic growth which grew 2.01 percent in 2016 to 3.40 percent in 2017.


"In terms of economic growth expenditure in West Sumatra, it is driven by the improvement of exports from minus 11.46 percent in 2016 to 16.49 percent in 2017," he said.


He said if measured from Regional Gross Regional Domestic Product it will reach Rp214.58 trillion and per capita GDP of Rp40.32 million.


Meanwhile, according to business field, West Sumatra economy experienced the highest growth in education field by 9.94 percent, accommodation, food and beverage 8.76 percent and information and communication 8.74 percent.


Not only that, in 2017 agriculture, forestry and fishery fields grew 23.55 percent, large trade, car reparations, motorcycles 15.05 percent and transportation and warehousing 12.64 percent.


Then from the side of economic growth expenditure of West Sumatra sustained by foreign imports of 71.82 percent, exports 8.59 percent and household consumption 5.48 percent, he added. (cha)
