Agam Repaired 20,250 Displaced Public Pools

Lubukbasung, (Antara Sumbar) - The government of Agam District, West Sumatra, repaired 20,250 damaged and displaced public pools in increasing freshwater fish production in the area.

"The improvement is done from 2012 to 2015," Head of the Department of Fisheries and Food Security of Agam, Ermanto stated accompanied by Head of Aquaculture Rosva Deswira in Lubukbasung on Monday (Sept 25).

Improvements that use the Special Allocation Fund started with leaking ponds, dumping mud and others.

"This improvement is in order to support Agam sowing and increasing fish production," he said.

Before the repair, the amount of fish production in the area is only about five thousand tons each year. Meanwhile, after repaired, the number of fish production increased to 12 tons.

"The production of freshwater fish has doubled since it was repaired, and the fish production is marketed to traditional markets in Agam, municipalities in West Sumatra, Riau Province, Jambi and others," he said.

The number of calm water pools and water in Agam were 25,000 units spread across 16 sub-districts.

Member of Agam Parliament, Jondra Marjaya, gave appreciation to relevant agencies in repairing damaged ponds so as to improve the economy of the community.

It hopes relevant agencies continue the program to improve the pond.

"We hope this program continues in improving people's economy and increasing fish production in the area," he added. (cha)
