Padang (ANTARA) - Governor of West Sumatra Irwan Prayitno asked regents and mayors in the province to tighten surveillance of migrants in anticipation of the spread of the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak.
"Most of those who are infected and people under surveillance (ODP) have traveled outside West Sumatra, therefore regional heads need to tighten the arrival of people," he said in Padang, while conducting a video conference with the regents and mayors in West Sumatra in order handling COVID-19, Friday.
According to him, currently there are six people who have confirmed positive COVID-19 in West Sumatra and based on previous contact history they have traveled from the affected area.
"Previously there were those who just returned from Malaysia, returned to Umrah and just returned from Yogyakarta," he said.
The governor also received information that currently there is a flow of returning Indonesian workers from Malaysia, so it is necessary to anticipate.
He estimated that approaching Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr would be an exodus, because at this time many people wanted to go home.
"I also urge immigrants not to go to hometown in order to maintain mutual benefit," he said.
Regional heads must tighten the entrances in their respective areas and conduct more stringent checks.
For incoming lanes from abroad by air have been closed, but land routes need to be watched out, such as Dharmasraya, Pasaman and Pesisir Selatan.
Regarding the suggesion for airport closure, he conveyed that it was the authority of the central government. "But until now there has not been a airport closed due to the outbreak of the corona virus," he said.
