Sarilamak (ANTARA) - Due to mining activities which have worsened high rainfall intensity, the land in Jorong Batu Hampa and Jorong Simpang Tiga, Kenagarian Koto Alam, Limapuluh Kota Regency, W Sumatra cracked as wide as one meter.

"This land crack is approximately 300 meters long. In addition to mining activities that use explosives, this is also exacerbated by high rainfall intensity, "said a resident of Jorong Polong Dua, llham Uwodi, on Thursday.

He said although the crack was in Jorong Batu Hampa, it also threatened Jorong Polong Dua. More than 300 people in Jorong Polong Dua are now being haunted by landslides from Jorong Batu Hampa.

"Now in Polong Dua we are just waiting for the landslides from Jorong Batu Hampa. The crack was one meter wide. We who are in Jorong Polong Dua, just waiting to be buried by landslides from above, "he said.

He mentioned that three years ago there had not been any land cracks in his village, and only seen in the last two years that also coincided with mining activities.

"The person who is mining uses dynamite. Not far from here, only around one kilometer, "he said.

While in Jorong Simpang Tiga, cracks in the ground damaged six housing units that makes the residents of the house unable to stay at home and chose to evacuate to their family's house.

One of the homeowners, Uwan said that since the high rainfall in the last few days, there was a movement of the land that cracked the walls and foundations of the house.

"My house is not far from the landslide location on Tuesday, Dec 10th. There was a movement of land and my house was damaged, "he said.

While Wali Nagari Koto Alam, Abdul Malik said there was land movement in Koto Alam due to high rainfall in the last few days where there were six damaged housing units.

"Indeed there are six damaged housing units. That is due to high rainfall in Koto Alam and makes the land move, "he said.
