Dragon fruit garden in Batuhampar has potential to be agrotourism: Nasrul Abit

Limapuluh Kota (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of W Sumatra, Nasrul Abit visits the dragon fruit garden in Nagari Batuhampar, Akabiluru District Limapuluh Kota, which can be used as an agro-tourism area that can improve the welfare of the local community.

This dragon fruit is an extraordinary potential in this area which is planted of 3,900 dragon fruits with an area of 1 hectare, Nasrul Abit said when visited Batuhampar, on Tuesday.

"For a one-time harvest produces two tons of dragon fruit at a price of Rp. 20 thousand / kilogram, the result reaches Rp. 40-75 million per harvest. If it can be managed well, it can improve the welfare of farmers. It also need new innovations in production and marketing development,"Nasrul Abit said.

Nagari Batuhampar, Akabiluru Subdistrict is a potential that develops agro-tourism. Moreover, the government will help the road to facilitate transportation with the aim of increasing agricultural income.

The Deputy Governor said commonly the Limapuluh Kota community was engaged in the plantation sector, the agricultural sector and the livestock sector.

"Hopefully this activity can motivate the community around the village of Batuhampar to utilize its vacant land. All of this land is utilized in accordance with existing commodities," he advised.

According to the Deputy Governor, if this opportunity could be put to good use, it would become a new economy in Nagari Batuhampar.

Romi Suhardi, “Walinagari” (village head) Batuhampar also conveyed, besides the dragon fruit currently has grown 10 hectares of banana fields, lemon fields of 25 hectares, and there are oranges.

This area is ready to be developed into an agro-tourism location and for future development, it needs help from the Limapuluh Regency Government, the provincial government and the central government, especially in the development of road infrastructure and marketing, he said.

Romi also added that currently there is still a lot of dry land that has not yet been cultivated. It can attract investors to advance this area.

"The presence of Deputy Governor Nasrul Abit is certainly very proud and motivates us to develop this potential better in the future," he said.
