Padang (ANTARA) - Land Transport Organization of West Sumatra (Organda) has asked the West Sumatra Provincial Government not only to stop land transportation operations while air transportation continues to operate.

"We support the West Sumatra Provincial Government's policy to break the spead of COVID-19 by stopping land public transport operations, but air transportation should also be stopped," said The Organda Chairman of West, S. Budi Syukur in Padang, Wednesday.

He said this step was to minimize the potential for social jealousy from land transportation actors because on land and air transportation both brought passengers into West Sumatra.

The two transports have the same opportunity to bring passengers who have been exposed to the virus into West Sumatra so that the rule for both should be the same.

"We have already responded to the letter from the governor on March 30, 2020 and requested that the operation of air transportation to the Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) be temporarily suspended," he said.

Regarding the termination of operations, Budi said before a letter from the governor, some otobus companies had ceased operations.

After the letter was received by Organda and socialized since Tuesday (3/31), almost all otobus company in West Sumatra stopped operating, one of which was the MPM PO for the Bandung-Jakarta-Padang route.

Previously, the Governor of West Sumatra, Irwan Prayitno in letter No. 551/385 / Dishub-SB / 2020 dated March 28, 2020, asked public transport entrepreneurs and tourism buses to temporarily stop operations until the COVID-19 transmission condition could be overcome.

The policy was taken in an effort to break the the spread of COVID-19 in the province which has killed one of 11 patients who tested positive.
