Lubukbasung (ANTARA) - The Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of Agam Resort, West Sumatra stated that the Rafflesia flower from the Rafflesia tuan mudae species grows and blooms in Marambuang, Nagari Baringin, Palembayan District, has a diameter of 111 centimeters.
"Based on the measurement of the diameter of the flower carried out on the second day, Tuesday (12/31)," said Agam Forest Management BKSDA Ecosystem Controller, Ade Putra in Lubukbasung, Tuesday.
He estimates that the size of the rafflesia flower will reach 117 centimeters when it is in full bloom or on the third day, Wednesday (1/1).
This will break the previous biggest record at that location in 2017 with a diameter of 107 centimeters.
He said, the flower would be closely monitored by BKSDA officers every day until the seventh day.
He acknowledged that this Tuan-mudae Rafflesia Flower is the only one in Indonesia, because it has never been found in other provinces.
The tuan-mudae was only found in Sarawak, Malaysia. Rafflesia Tuan-mudae is a species that is almost similar to Rafflesia Arnoldii.
However, based on the results of research and exploration conducted by Agus Susatya in October 2017, he mentions some morphological or physical differences between the types of rafflesia in the Maninjau Nature Reserve and Arnoldii are the color of the petals or perigon, if Arnoldii has a more orange color while the Tuan-mudae coloured maroon.
Then a white pattern or blotch on the flower petals. Spotting in the Maninjau Nature Reserve is single while Arnoldii are double and small.
Until the end of 2017, there are 31 species of Rafflesia plants in the world, 15 in Indonesia, and 11 in Sumatra.
