Silek Arts Festival 2019 presents memories of the dance maestro, Gusmiati Suid

"We want to provide a reference for the younger generation about the process of creating a work by a Maestro," said Head of the Arts and Cultural Diplomacy Department, W Sumatra's Ilfitra Cultural Office in Padang, on Thursday.

He said there were eight presenters presented at the workshop. The speakers are students of Gusmiati Suid and a number of musicians who is a living witness the process of its creation

He explained that one of the reasons why Rantak Dance be discussed, because it was a dance originating from the silek movement.

"With this workshop, we want to restore the philosophical values of this Rantak Dance. "With the presence of Gusmiati Suid students, we can know what the Rantak Dance is like," he said.

Meanwhile the 2019 Silek Art Festival Director Ediwar said the legacy of Gusmiati Suid in the Minangkabau dance was very large, namely the unification of movement and the philosophy of silek with dance into a unified whole.

That relic is now continued both in dance, randai to theater.

The eight presenters were Dr. Rahmi Fahmi, SE MBA, Drs Hajizar, Msn, Dr. Indra Utama, S.kar, M.Hum, PhD, Drs Hanefi, Mpd Dr. Siti N Kusumastuti, S.Sn M.Sos, Julianti Parani, PhD, Muslim, S.Kar, M.Sn, and Hartati, M.Sn. They each have an emotional closeness with the maestro.

Throughout her career, Gusmiati has produced at least 30 works of dance performance.

The seminar and workshop was attended by practitioners and dance studios in West Sumatra and delegates from a number of universities including Unand, UNP and ISI Padang Panjang. (*)
