Lubukbasung (ANTARA) - The Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) of West Sumatra reminds chirping bird lovers to immediately register and report animals, especially birds that have been included in the protected list, because the registration deadline is until Friday (9/4).

"Animal registration ends on September 4, 2020 at 2.30 P.M.," said Ade Putra, the Forest Ecosystem Controller of the West Sumatra BKSDA, in Lubukbasung, Monday.

The deadline for registration is in accordance with the announcement with PG Number: 827 / K.9 / TU / TSL / 08/2020 dated August 28, 2020 which was signed by the Head of the West Sumatra BKSDA, Erly Sukrismanto.

In the announcement, it was stated that animal data collection ended on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 14.30 WIB.

Previously in 2018, the Minister of Environment and Forestry (LKH) issued a Regulation of the Minister of LKH Number P.20 / 2018 which was last amended by Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number P.106 / 2018 concerning the list of protected plants and animals.

In this regulation, several species of animals, especially birds that were not previously listed as protected, become protected, such as golden birds (parrots), cica daun or murai daun and others.

Since the issuance of this regulation, people who already own and maintain protected animals are obliged to report it to the BKSDA to record and make a report mark.

In Article 1B paragraph 4 of the rule, it is explained that the grace period for data collection is two years after the regulation is issued.

For protected birds, they are obliged to report it, while those that are not protected voluntarily report it.

BKSDA as the Technical Implementing Unit (UPT) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in the regions has the duty and authority to supervise the distribution of wild plants and animals and has carried out socialization and opened data collection posts in every BKSDA office in regencies and cities.

If after the data collection period is over, owners of protected birds, especially protected birds, who do not report their ownership will be subject to sanctions in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.

In accordance with Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Living Natural Resources and their Ecosystems. In this law, every person is prohibited from capturing, injuring, killing, possessing, keeping, maintaining, transporting and trading protected animals whether alive or dead or their body parts.

The sanction for violators are a maximum of five years in prison and a maximum fine of Rp100 million.
