
Eight earthquakes occurred in West Sumatra in the past week

Padang (ANTARA) - The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) of Padang Panjang, W Sumatra recorded eight earthquakes in the past week (June 4 to 11, 2020), in W Sumatra region and surrounding areas.
"Based on our observation there have been eight earthquakes in W Sumatra and surrounding areas since the past week," said the Head of Data and Information BMKG Section of Padang Panjang, Mamuri when contacted from Padang on Friday.
He mentioned that of the eight earthquakes, there was one earthquake that was felt strong enough on June 10, 2020 in Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu Province.

The earthquake had a depth of 24 kilometers with 5.7 magnitude which is located at 28 kilometers Southwest, Mukomuko, Bengkulu, he explained.
He said the earthquake was felt in Pesisir Selatan region, Padang City, Kerinci, Lubuk Basung, Padang Pariaman, Padang Panjang, Bukittinggi, Kepahiyang, Bengkulu City, Dhamasraya, Payakumbuh, and Tanah Datar II MMI, "he explained.
"Then from the eight earthquakes there was one earthquake with a medium depth and seven others were shallow earthquakes," he said.
He mentioned that of the eight earthquakes there were four earthquake located in W Sumatra, three in Bengkulu, and once in North Sumatra.
"The strength of the earthquake that occurred in the past week, there was an earthquake felt by the community," he said.
Then, he added, the earthquake in West Sumatra also occurered once in Pasaman, Pasaman Barat, Solok Selatan, and once in Tanah Datar.
"Then the earthquake with the lowest strength was only 2.4 magnitude, which occurred in Pasaman and Tanah Datar," he said.
