Tidal flood inundates Amping Parak Pesisir Selatan Sea Turtle Conservation

Painan (ANTARA) - Tidal floods caused by rising sea levels inundated several points at the Amping Parak Sea Turtle Conservation site, Sutera Subdistrict, Pesisir Selatan Regency, W Sumatra since Friday (5/22) until today.

"Some spots have been flooded by tidal floods for the past few days, such as at the jetty which height reaches 15 centimeters, but overall all facilities are in good condition," said Chief of the Laskar Turtle Camp, Amping Parak, Haridman in Painan on Wednesday.

Besides that, the tidal flood did not affect several sea turtle collections there, because its location at height.

"There are no turtles that loose and if the floods recede until the afternoon then the conservation conditions return to normal," he said.

Amping Parak Sea Turtle Conservation is one of the popular family tourism destinations in Pesisir Selatan besides the Mandeh Area, Carocok Painan Beach and others.

Haridman said even during the 2019 eid holiday the number of tourist arrivals reached 50 thousand people who not only came from the local district but also across regencies in W Sumatra and outside the province.

"We counted for six days there were 50 thousand tourists, and the average number of visits per day reached more than 8 thousand people," he said.

Amping Parak Sea Turtle Conservation presents the beauty of a white sandy beach complete with thousands of evergreen trees that make visitors feel at home for long.

Before arriving at the conservation site, visitors must first board the tourist boat for about five minutes passing brackish water that separates the location from the mainland.

There are also representative parking lots for motorbikes and cars, and being located not far from the Padang Sumatra-Bengkulu that makes the location increasingly attractive to tourists.

"In the 2020 eid holiday there are also tourists who go to the location but due to several policies in an effort to minimize COVID-19, we from the manager try to give an understanding to them," he added. (*)
