Padang (ANTARA) - Mayor of Padang Mahyeldi issued instructions on the obligation to wear masks for all city residents when doing activities outside the home and there will be sanctions in the form of fines for those who do not use masks.

"In order to prevent the spread of the corona virus, all citizens are required to wear masks when outside the home," he said in Padang on Monday through an instruction letter number 870,176 / BPBD-PDG / IV / 2020.

According to him the obligation to wear masks applies to people who are active outside the home such as buying food, medical treatment to other urgent needs.

For residents who come from outside the area who entered the city of Padang are also required to wear masks and maintain a safe distance while on the vehicle, he said.

He suggested a mask that is used minimum of two layers of cloth and washed regularly after use.

"For people who do not wear masks when they leave the house, they will be fined two masks, one for themselves and one more for other residents who do not yet have masks," he said.

On the other hand he asked the neighborhood units (RT) or community units (RW) management to socialize the corona and appeal to use masks for their citizens and protect themselves and the environment.

Previously the Mayor of Padang Mahyeldi also asked immigrants who had just arrived in Padang to immediately report to the local RT to the health workers as an effort to prevent the spread of Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19).

According to him he needs close supervision at the RT level to prevent the spread of the corona outbreak especially for residents who have just returned from the affected area.

He also encouraged the lurah (subdistrict head) to ask the mosque's administrators in their respective neighborhoods to make an announcement so that residents who had just returned from the affected area would report and carry out independent isolation.

The government has prepared a self-reporting flow through WhatsApp containing detailed information on names, addresses, contact numbers, travel history and arrival dates.
