Lubukbasung (ANTARA) - Rafflesia Arnoldi flower blooms perfectly in the roots hanging on the medang tree, above the ground with a distance of 170 centimeters, in Jorong Data Simpang Dingin, Nagari Paninjau, Tanjungraya Sub-district, Agam Regency, W Sumatra.
"The Rafflesia flower grew on the tree and now in full bloom," said Agam Resort's Forest Ecosystem Conservation Agency, Natural Resources Conservation (BKSDA), Ade Putra in Lubukbasung on Thursday.
He said, Rafflesia flowers that bloom on the tree are very rare and were first discovered in Agam in the western region
"This is unique and before this, the visitors were surprised to see the condition and plan to see if it blooms later," he said.
He said, the Rafflesia flower can grow on trees because its host is a type of tetrastigma root plant that wraps around the medang tree's trunk up to the bud.
Then the flower will grow between the roots wrapped around the tree trunk.
In Simpang Dingin Data there are two distribution points of this rare flower population with 15 knobs and one more month will bloom.
"The location of the flower bloom is only 15 minutes from the Data Aia Gadang residential areas, Nagari Baringin, Palembayan Sub-district," he said.
To reach the location, BKSDA has installed directional signs, information boards and prohibition boards.
Previously bloomed two knobs of Rafflesia flowers simultaneously with a distance of about five meters.
Then, for the location of the Rafflesia Tuan-mudae in Cagar Alam Maninjau in Marambuang, Nagari Baringin, Palembayan Sub-district, was closed to the public after blooming in early 2020.
It was done to restore the condition of its natural ecosystem, after many visitors came to the location. (*)
